Chandigarh Orthodox Syrian Church Society
The Chandigarh Orthodox Church is a part of Indian Orthodox Church which has the distinction of being among the oldest Churches in the world and owes its origin to the arrival of St.Thomas, one of the disciples of Jesus Christ, in AD 52 in Kerala. The Head Quarter of the Church is at Kottayam, Kerala. His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose -II is the Supreme Head of the Church and this region is under the Diocese of Delhi our diocesan Bishop His Grace Dr. Yuhannon Mar Dimitrios our Metropolitan. The church found it necessary to start educational institutions for the social and intellectual development of the society.
The Indian Orthodox Church is running more than 600 schools all across the country. It also runs many colleges, engineering colleges and teachers training colleges etc, imparting quality education, in different parts of the country. Under the northen regional headquarters at Delhi, we also have well reputed schools in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, St. Mary's School, Chandigarh is the first school of the Indian Orthodox Church in Punjab region.
Ours is a registered charitable society that has pioneered in the field of health and education all over India.
